Russia-Singapore Business Council (RSBC) has expanded the geography of its presence within the framework of business and cultural cooperation. This year Russian Film Week was held in two countries at once: in Singapore and in Malaysia. The opening ceremony of this large-scale event was held on November 1 in the cultural center of Southeast Asia – Kuala Lumpur.
The Fourth Russian Film Week was held from 1 to 3 November 2022 in the largest theater in Kuala Lumpur TGV Suria KLCC with the support of the National program "Within the family.
The Chairman of the Russian-Singapore Business Council Nikolay Volobuev gave a welcome speech. "The fourth Russian Film Week has a great goal of popularizing our culture and Russian cinematography among international audiences. The event held by RSBC is designed to promote a positive image of Russia abroad and traditional values of the Russian people, as well as the establishment of humanitarian and business ties between Russia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. This, in turn, will increase mutual understanding and respect between the peoples of our countries, understanding of culture and trust," - said N. Volobuev.
All films presented during the IV Russian Film Week are contemporary films. The repertoire is represented by the following films: "Eleven Silent Men" (2022, directed by Alexey Pimanov, Ekaterina Pobedinskaya), "Everything is allright" (2021, directed by Elena Hazanova), "Son of a rich" (2019, directed by Klim Shipenko), "The big deal" (2019, directed by Mikhail Raskhodnikov), "From grief to joy" (2020, directed by Eduar Parri).
Russian films aroused great interest and received a lively emotional response in the hearts of our spectators. More than a thousand people attended the screenings, including local residents who were imbued with Russian culture and the Russian spirit portrayed in the film projects. Honored guests of the Opening Ceremony and film screenings were distinguished public officials, diplomats, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Singapore N. Kudashev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Malaysia N. Latypov, representatives of business, culture of Russia, Singapore and Malaysia and local media.

The Film Week also included film screenings in the Foreign Promotion Center of Russian high-tech companies and presentation of investment projects in Singapore. On November 4, within the IV Russian Film Week, the Russian Embassy in Singapore will host a screening of "11 Silent Men," to which RSBC partners from the diplomatic community and Singaporean government officials, as well as Singaporean viewers, have been invited.
"Great film, very patriotic, very honest, elevating us above the everyday life, demonstrating the experience of previous generations and setting the standard of morality, courage, decency that we all need, that the whole world needs. It is great that Russian sports and Russian actors set this standard," said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Singapore Nikolay Kudashev after watching the film.
Ivan Dobronravov, a Russian film actor who played in one of the featured films ("From Grief to Joy"), spoke about his role, about the details of the film making, and also answered the question why Russian films are so popular abroad.
IV Russian Film Week marked a new milestone on the way to business and cultural cooperation between Russia and the Asia-Pacific region, to the growth of mutual understanding, respect and trust between our nations. Having presented all the genre diversity of Russian cinematography and arousing the warmest and most sincere feelings of the audience, the Russian Film Week officially ended and said goodbye to its guests until next year.
