Software and hardware complex WiLAB composition and functions

Software and hardware complex WiLAB is a mobile laboratory in which monitoring and verification of networks covering of WiMAX/LTE standards can be done. The complex hardware part consists of:

subscriber communication system terminal (SТ);
navigation receiver GLONASS/GPS;
antenna feeder system;
signals parameters measuring equipment;
network router;
personal computer.
The indicated equipments allows with the set periodicity conducting of current location of the mobile complex and monitoring of the following covering characteristics of the analyzed network:

Identifier of servicing base station (BS);
Received signal strength indicator - RSSI;
Signal interference noise ratio - SINR;
Schemes of modulation and coding;
Channel data transmission rate.
The software complex part carries out preliminary processing of measuring results, timing of covering parameters (received by means of measuring equipment) with coordinates of the measuring point. Besides, the software part displays on the electronic map in real-time mode the current position of the mobile laboratory with marks about covering parameters and provides saving of the received track on a hard disk for the following processing and analysis.

Mobile laboratory complex of WiMAX/LTE networks analysis

Purpose:

quality control of provided communication;
measuring of main parameters of data transmission channel;
definition of covering zone and guaranteed WiMAX/LTE network servicing;
estimation of the equipment comptability;
subscriber equipment comparison.
Equipment composition:

portable personal computer;
Customer Premises Equipment (CPE);
external antenna installed on the roof;
tester of signals parameters (Rhode & Schwarz);
Satellite navigation receiver (GLONASS/GPS).
The equipment is mounted on the chassis of automobile FIAT DUCATO. The installed equipment realized the output of measuring characteristics of data transmission channel and estimates of communication quality in real time mode and also record of measuring results and analysis on a hard disk together with saving of coordinates of the current position of the laboratory received from the navigation receiver.

Main output data:

identifying number of servicing BS and cell number;
Received signal strength indicator;
Signal interference noise ratio (SINR);

счетчик переданных и потерянных пакетов (PDU).
Measuring results

The received measuring and surveillance results matched with the corresponding coordinates of the measuring point can be used for verification of covering zone and quality of services. They can also be used for correction of frequency-territorial planning made by the software complex of calculation and analysis of WiMAX/LTE networks covering. For this purpose the complex can automatically correct the used models on the base of laboratory measuring results.

Laboratory network research and correction of forecasted covering at intermediate stages of WiMAX/LTE networks deployment allow make changes in proper time into the topology of communication system. It also leads to more effective usage of frequency recourse, covering of the required territory with the least expenses, decreases the time for network deployment and prevents from installation of additional equipment.

Additional capabilities of the mobile laboratory complex

estimation of parameters defining the quality of services (QoS), exact forecasting which is a complicated task and is not realized during frequency-territorial planning;
high-precision definition of the zone borders of spill-forward call during subscriber moving between the cells (of hand-off zone) and estimation of average expenses of bandwidth-time resources for uninterrupted communication between mobile subscribers when they move between the cells.
