The principle of operation of the ice meter:
The operator using the device can determine the thickness of the ice in a radius of 1-2 m around
him, holding the device at a height of about 1 m, that is, without contact with the surface. The
compact size and light weight of the device allow you to hold it in your hand, gradually moving on
the surface of the ice. On the laptop screen, a radarogram will be displayed with the image of the
interfaces between the media (snow, ice, water, soil), the measured values of the ice thickness and
the height of the device above the ice surface.
It is possible to use the ice meter on a car, all-terrain vehicle, snowmobile, hovercraft. In this case,
the laptop is brought to the driver. This method of measurement will allow you to measure ice on
the trajectory of the track, without drilling holes and deterioration of load-bearing capacity. Certain
parameters of the thickness and structure of ice allow us to make a decision about the safety of
movement. When using stationary signal processing software, it is possible to build an ice sheet
profile map if there is a record made with reference to the coordinate of the measurement points
using the GPS / GLONASS navigation receiver.
Our ice meter can be used with any computer (tablet, laptop or other computer with Windows
installed). It is enough to install the unique SKI-Ice software on the computer, connect the display
module and the device is ready for operation. In addition, it is possible to use the SKI-Ice PC
software, specially designed for use on desktop computers and laptops, which has increased
capabilities and functionality.
Measurement results can be recorded for further analysis. Since there are many different types of
ice, depending on environmental conditions, etc., the instrument may need calibration to work with
that particular type of ice. In this case, the Customer needs to send a signal record indicating the ice
thickness values obtained by control measurement using an ice drill and a measuring rod, and the
manufacturer's technical support will configure and send the Customer an updated program.
The unique SKI-Ice field-specific signal processing software used allows automatically calculating
the difference between air-ice-water media boundaries and determining the thickness of monolithic
ice using a radarogram.
The Pikor-Led ice thickness gauge was tested at several search and rescue stations of the Ministry
of Emergencies in Moscow and the Moscow Region, on the basis of an exploration batch in Yamal,
in companies of the fuel and energy complex (TNK-BP). During the winter season 2012-2013 the
