Description

Depending on the refractive index ne and the dispersion coefficient ve colorless inorganic glasses are
divided into the following types:
LC-light crowns; FC-phosphate crowns; TFK-heavy phosphate crowns; K-crowns; BC-barite crowns; TC-
heavy crowns; STK-super-heavy crowns; OK-special crowns (with a special course of dispersion).
CF-kronflints; BF-barite flints; TBF-heavy barite flints; LF-light flints; f-flints; TF-heavy flints; STF-super-
heavy flints; OF-special flints (with a special course of dispersion).
Each type of glass occupies a specific area of the coordinate field of the refractive index ne and the
dispersion coefficient ve in the Abbe diagram. Glasses of the same type, but of different chemical
composition, are assigned different brands, consisting of letters adopted for this type of glass, and serial
numbers.
The purpose (scope):
Optical glasses are the basis of optical devices. Optical inorganic glass is produced in blanks of various
sizes and shapes for the manufacture of lenses, prisms, plates and other parts in observation devices:
in measuring optical instruments;
in photographic and projection devices;
in visual and automatic systems of any equipment that receives, transmits and transforms optical
radiation according to a given law.
Parameters of the main properties of colorless optical glasses:
Silicate and silicate-borate crowns:
K-crowns with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.50-1.54 and a dispersion coefficient ve - from 67-
57;
BC-barite crowns with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.51 – 1.58 and a dispersion coefficient ve -
from 66.5 – 55.5;
TC-heavy crowns with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.51 – 1.58 and a dispersion coefficient ve -
from 66.5 – 55.5;
STK - superheavy crowns with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.65-1.66 and a dispersion coefficient
ve-from 50-45;
Silicate and borate flints:
CF-cronflints with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.50-1.55 and a dispersion coefficient ve - from
63-50;
BF-barite flints with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.52-1.70 and a dispersion coefficient ve - from
56-31;
TBF-heavy barite flints with a refractive index ne above 1.8 and a dispersion coefficient ve below 35;
LF-light flints with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.55-1.60 and a dispersion coefficient ve-from 50-
39;
F-flints with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.60-1.64 and a dispersion coefficient ve - from 39-35;
TF-heavy flints with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.64 – 1.9 and a dispersion coefficient ve-from
35-22;
STF - superheavy flints with a refractive index ne above 1,900 and a dispersion coefficient ve below 22;
Non-silicate crowns and flints:
FC-phosphate crowns and TFC – heavy phosphate with a refractive index ne in the range of 1.50-1.62
and a dispersion coefficient ve-from 70-64;
OK-special crowns (with a special course of dispersion) with a refractive index ne below 1.5 and a
dispersion coefficient ve above 80;
OF-special flints (with a special course of dispersion) with a refractive index of ne 1.53 and a dispersion
coefficient of ve 51.2.
